Ikon inspirations
My love of the Japanese culture comes from my wonderful mom. She grew up in Osaka, Japan and moved to the US in the 1950s. She taught me about the Japanese customs, language and food. Most importantly, she taught me about being a good person…to be respectful, to be generous, kind and caring, help those in need and love all God’s creatures great and small.

Education
Education is key for the future of the breed.
Today there are many web resources to learn about the Nihon Ken. In addition, there are breed and owner groups that share experiences and provide insight about topics commonly, or not so commonly encountered with the breeds.
Ikon Nihon Ken works to educate the public about the Shikoku and Kai Ken through sharing information, offering visits to meet the breed and getting out there with our dogs at performance events.

The Orangi Fund
We honor the memory of Miss Orange. She was an amazing and brave Shikoku puppy who sadly lost her life to illness. Her care was very expensive but we were willing to do whatever we could to help her. During her care, we were inspired by her incredible strength and beauty.
As any pet owner knows, unexpected illness is overwhelming, both emotional and financial. As a rule, we recommend pet insurance for all owners. However, insurance will only cover so much.
The Orangi Fund was created in memory of Miss Orange to assist Nihon ken and their dedicated owners during time of need.
